Air Compressor Buying Tips

• Make sure the compressors CFM is an accurate reflection of its Air Cubic Feet per Minute (ACFM) of air movement – be careful here because sometimes a compressors CFM is not representative of its true air movement capacity. Before purchasing a unit you have to make sure you know both of these numbers and they should be similar.

• Horsepower – Pay attention to the horsepower a compressor has. Does horsepower make a difference? You bet and you need to pay attention to it when shopping for an air compressor. The more horsepower the more compressed air that compressor unit is able to make. It also has to be considered because you can have too much horsepower for your air reservoir tank size and that can be dangerous.

• Ensure longevity – There are several parts on an air compressor that are dead giveaways as to how well built that air compressor is. Look for their description to include such things as cast iron body, stainless steel valves and if they include an oil gauge; these things are usually indicative of a compressor that will last you a long time.

• Know your voltage – you have to consider the voltage available at the place where you will use your air compressor. Standard 100 volt electrical outlets will only support machines that are 3 horsepower or less.

As was mentioned, there are many buying options out there when it comes to getting the best 80 gallon air compressors. These are not inexpensive devices so it’s not like you can throw one you are not happy with away and run out and get a new one. So take your time buying and make sure you do a little research on any compressor unit that you are considering before buying. Or you can take our sound advice and purchase one of the exceptional compressor units reviewed here. Good luck!

  1. My brother has been thinking about getting an air compressor. That is a good thing to know that he should check what the max psi on the ones he is looking at is. I know that he would also want to have an easy time adjusting the pressure.
