VEVOR Bag Closer Closing Machine 110V Portable Sewing Machine

The VEVOR bag closer machine is a strong, durable, and affordable solution to light-duty use with canvas.

This canvas sewing machine has one of the fastest needle speeds in any sewing unit, and the simple design almost eliminates the possibilities of jams, snags, and other internal errors. The main shaft moves at 1000 RPM, and the whole unit is rated for up to 10,000 RPM.

This sewing machine is capable of working through 1/4” of material at a time, roughly the thickness of multiple layers of canvas on top of one another. This makes it ideal for sewing together canvas bags, canvas sails, and other useful fabric products.

While this unit may be designed for use in factories and warehouses, it’s perfectly at home in a residential area as well. It may not have the brand recognition of some of the other sewing machines on our list, but it’s still a hardy, reliable, durable, and practical purchase for anyone who wants a light-duty canvas sewing machine for sails, bags, sacks, and more!

Brother XR3774 Full-Featured Quilting / Sewing Machine

Brother is one of the best-known and most-respected sewing machine brands in the world. Their XR3774 full-featured quilting sewing machine stays true to that reputation and takes it the extra mile by empowering you to work with canvas and other thick materials.

This sewing machine is ideal for everyday sewing projects, including those that work with canvas. Working with canvas on this machine requires a denim needle (see a bunch here), but because this is the most affordable Brother sewing machine produced, you can be sure you’ll have the extra cash to get that needle!

This machine has 37 unique built-in stitches for everything from button sewing to elaborate decorative sewing. On maximum settings, this sewing machine is also capable of creating 800 stitches in a single minute. You probably won’t need that speed when you’re working with something as thick as canvas, but this sewing machine is capable of much more than just canvas!

The Brother XR3774 sewing machine also comes with eight sewing feet for buttonholes zippers, zigzags, blind stitches, button sewing, hemming, walking, and quilting. Best of all, this machine comes with several ease-of-use features, including a built-in needle threader, a jam-resistant top, and a drop-in bobbin. Brother even went the extra mile to ensure you can always see what you’re doing, even when the lights are off, with a bright LED light that covers your sewing area. If you are looking to working with heavy duty material, then this machine would be among the best sewing machines for canvas period.

The Best Sewing Machines for Canvas: What to Look For

What you look for inside of a sewing machine depends on what you desire the most. If you are looking for power, then Sailrites are going to be the best fit for you. If you are looking for speed, then I would suggest the Singer sewing machines.

I would also look for different stitch patterns. The more stitch patterns a machine has, the more creative you can be. If you are looking for a simple straight stitch, then I would look for an adjustable stitch length to give it more creativity.

If you are desiring to work with heavy materials like canvas, sails, tents, and so forth, then you should look for power first and foremost. It may take a tad longer, but it will be the best for creating durable stitching.

If you are looking for quick and durable stitching for lighter canvas materials, then I would suggest looking for speed and decorative stitching. Look for a machine that is going to work well with the canvas material you want to use. Buy the one that best suits your needs. Good luck!

  1. My friends who live full time on a sail boat bought a new sailrite machine and let me buy their old singer machine from them a singer 201 cast iron I believe it was first bought in the late 1930s to the mid 1940s, after they had used the new one for a while they said that they wished they had never bothered as the new sailrite would not sew multi layered heavy duty canvas sails unlike their old singer I am still very happy with the singer which I keep on my boat, the Singer machine use to belong to my friends mother and is around 70 years old now it has had a new motor just before I bought it.
